‘Nosebleeds’ by Lucas Assagba | Single Review

Heartbroken at 2am? Take a listen to the new track from Lucas Assagba, ‘Nosebleeds.’ Smoky, intimate, and grungy, drawing comparisons to Cigarettes After Sex wouldn’t be a stretch in relation to the tracks pace and development. ‘Nosebleeds’ presents a feeling of late-night melancholy, the kind of intimacy you want alone with a track, whether it be in your own space, or on the train whilst the rain trickles down the window.
Assagba has brought us a track from a place of exasperation and frustration, which is reflected through the chord development throughout. A quiet anger is portrayed, acoustics layered with deep, grungy tones, that are volatile between the verses.
The track takes you on a journey, a visceral experience that feels raw and human, feelings of pain and vulnerability shine through the underlayer of a gritty undercurrent, essentially communicating an unpolished, mortal array of emotion.
Emotional interpretations can be made throughout the lyrics, a psychological and physiological woundedness, comparatively made to an unexpected bleed, just like a nosebleed.
Lucas’ forthcoming EP has been produced by Ben Parry (Fuzz Lightyear) and mastered by Dom Richmond (Van Houten), after impressive recent success with her single ‘Comet’, featured in Vevo’s Emerging Artist playlist.
Anticipation for Lucas’ new project is building, after a successful debut EP released in January of this year, followed by shows in both Manchester and Leeds.
Lucas’ EP ‘What more could I ask you to do’ will be available from the 25th September 2025.
