‘Fall so Fast’ by Alex Kolo | Single Review
4 August 2025 | Written By Anna Konovalenko
How many of us have found ourselves in that disenchanted moment when our expectations are crushed by the brutal force of reality? I know I’ve definitely experienced a few of these lately.
Fall So Fast, written and performed by Alex Kolo and recorded together with Jeremy Lister, hit the platforms on May 16, 2025, and has already captured the hearts of fans. With its sharply tailored verses, the single hits exactly the right spot when thinking about unmet expectations in today’s dating scene. Fall So Fast is not just another love song, but a genuinely composed musical ballad that explores the pain of losing someone before even truly getting to know them.
Alex Kolo, originally from East Windsor, NJ, at just 22, has already travelled the world and gathered a wealth of experiences, now releasing her fifth single. Fall So Fast not only captures her approach to love but also reflects the modern dating landscape. In today’s world of fleeting connections, our expectations are often built on illusions rather than reality.
Very often, it’s the image we painted in our heads that ends up clashing with reality, creating a painful void where the idealised version of someone once was is crushed. And in modern life settings, this song very accurately describes relationships.
Like many of Alex’s songs, Fall So Fast came not from the overactive imagination but from real-life experiences. As usual, she tries to convey her personal story into the lyrics of the song, and that is the reason the song feels so poignant and relatable. ‘But my heart starts flying/Everytime I look at you’ symbolises a fast-acting, intoxicating rush of new connections. The next lines bring the focus on the conflicting relationships between emotion and reason: ‘Always proceed with caution/ Thoroughly think it through/Logic goes out of the window/ Every time I’m next to you’.
The single’s cover art is a work of its own. It somehow resembles imagery from The Little Mermaid, completing the theme of whimsical longing and disillusionment that haunts young love in an age of quick bonds and even quicker breakups.
From following Alex through her career, it seems that turning her experiences into songs is a way for the young musician to process emotions.
She commented ‘Sometimes, you don’t even have time to fully understand someone before they’re gone, but the emotions still hit you like a tidal wave. Jeremy helped me shape those feelings into something really special.’
Alex Kolo is definitely progressing as a solo artist. This is quite evident from her recent collaborations with more mature professionals. The recent single Fall So Fast with Jeremy Lister and last year's I’m Sorry I love U, co-written with Brandon Chase, illustrate Kolo’s commitment to learn, improve and excel in her performance. What strikes the most, however, is Alex’s distinct style stemming through in her every song. Evidently enough, regardless of her collaborators, the aspiring artist is getting her word to the world in what feels exactly her authentic and unapologetic style.
