The Ocho - ‘French Bay Hotel’ Single Review

Jan 16 | Written By Lauren Ketterl

If you’ve never heard of the band The Ocho, take this as your sign to check out this up-and-coming band out of Athens, Georgia, the same city where new wave band The B-52’s originated from.

French Bay Motel The Ochos

The group released their new single titled ‘French Bay Hotel’ on December 12th, and it doesn’t disappoint. The band is made up of vocalist Garret Seitz, drummer Ashwin Gidwani, bassist Parker Foles , and guitarists Jonah Bergman and Patrick Dries. The Ocho got their start playing gigs around Athens at The 40 Watt Club and the iconic Georgia Theatre. The group writes and records their own original songs, including their newest single. Earlier this year they released their first E.P. titled “Spring Without a Lover” and it is a must-listen.

If you are a fan of John Mayer or Zach Bryan, this band is the perfect combination of the two. Their music has a smooth but rustic vibe thanks to the vocals of Seitz and the jazzy feel of their new single. The song ‘French Bay Hotel’ has a softer mood and focuses on a conversation between two people, where one of the people has everything. “Private plane, trips to Spain. Cover of a magazine. It all seems like a lot. I drink my wine in church, this could never work” exemplifies how one person has everything and the other person lives a simple life. This song beautifully illustrates a person trying to get the attention of someone who has it all and isn’t able to satisfy them because they can’t give them everything they are used to.

The Ocho’s first started releasing music in November of 2022 with the drop of their song ‘Izzy’ which later appears on the group’s E.P. “Spring Without a Lover.” The unique sounds this group has developed in their short time have established their music as a must-add to any playlist. Overall, listeners should be excited to see what the future holds for this band and their new music.
