Penny Beverly dropped their first single in over a year titled ‘Laugh at You’ on January 24th, and it is certain to get stuck in your head.
The up-and-coming group out of Portland, Oregon, includes Duncan MacEachern, Michael Mazzocco, and Shane Tanksley. Their new song perfectly captures their creative sound and shows listeners why their music needs to be heard. The group got their first big break when their song ‘What’s Your Name’ was featured in a Honda commercial. They are currently in the works of putting out their sophomore EP “Act Natural” this year, and they have already released two songs to kick it off.
This upbeat song master’s the feel-good vibe while spitting some contradictory lyrics. The first line of the song, “Just tired of it all, everything’s a game, it’s got me feeling wasted what can I say,” is a perfect example of this. It follows the themes of self-exploration and accepting the little things in life that are out of reach. There are a lot of underlying messages of self-reflection or soul-searching in this song, which is said to be reflected in the group’s newest EP.
Penny Beverly also recently put out another single titled ‘Waiting’ which has a slower and more mellow tone compared to ‘Laugh at You”. Both songs greatly reflect the tremendous talent this group holds and prove to listeners why their music is a force to be reckoned with.
Check out their first EP, “Something Else,” to get a full taste of their music and look out for new music leading up to the release of “Act Natural.”
