Alex Kolo - ‘Amsterdam’ | Single Review

March 22 | Written by Anna Konovalenko

Alex Kolo is a young aspiring artist who is only 20 and has already travelled the world studying and discovering new cultures while implementing them in her music. Alex has influence of German, Dutch and Polish cultures in her art. Right now, she studies at Belmont University and is set to create music which is a passion of her heart.

Alex didn’t take much rest after debuting her first hit ‘One Of These Days’ which was released earlier this year and already won the hearts of the fans. The previous song was a lyric love ballad which was a personal reflection on unrequited love. While the song was full of hope it definitely gave nostalgic memories to many.

However, ‘Amsterdam’ elaborates on a new level. More upbeat synergic tunes developing in both vocals and music. The central theme of the song revolves around discovering that the person you love is secretly seeing other people, but taking it with pride and dignity.

The favourite part is in the beginning, where the song kicks in with straightforward lyrics ‘I know I know I know what you’re doing/You think you’re so clever with your plans’ followed by a pedal effect which dives you in the music plane. The fans could see Alex’s voice growing stronger and more confident developing some new tonalities.

The song doesn't evoke feelings of sympathy or regret but comes across as somewhat sharp-tongued, therefore breezing in confidence and awareness. ‘Hope it’s worth it/Trading all we had for just one night/ You can ask me for forgiveness/But once the story is over there’s no rewrite’

While Amsterdam has a similar beat of melody as the first Alex song, the true fans can definitely feel the experiment going on. Incorporating new techniques means Alex is determined to explore music and what she is truly capable of.

The growth we observe can also be attributed to the collaboration between Alex and Lydia Laird. Lydia is a young and accomplished musician and co-writer of the song. Working on the ‘Amsterdam’ together Alex and Lydia infused it at the same time with fresh tunes and wisdom. Both artists are very excited about the debut of the single.

‘We are incredibly excited to share 'Amsterdam' with the world,’ said Alex Kolo.

‘Amsterdam’ is available now! Do not hesitate to give it a listen.
